In Las Vegas (KLAS), the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada and dedicated Disaster Action Team volunteers came to the aid of 39 residents who were affected by 11 home fires this week.
Rachel Flanigan, the Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, emphasized that the Disaster Action Team volunteers are always on standby, ensuring that nobody in Southern Nevada has to face life’s emergencies alone. Their quick response offers immediate compassion and care, especially to those displaced and in dire need of assistance.
Home fires remain the most common and devastating disasters in the nation, leaving families needing help and support.
Flanigan expressed deep gratitude for the support from volunteers, the community, and generous donors, who play a crucial role in enabling relief efforts for the victims.
Upon completing their training, these volunteers can take on shifts where they may respond to emergencies within two hours, whether it be during the day or night, either being present at the scene or coordinating remotely to provide much-needed compassion and care. With experience and additional training, volunteers can step into leadership roles. You can visit the Red Cross Disaster Action Team page to learn more.
